Simplicity 8839 - The Beginning

I am not really that person to take it slow. I wanted to learn how to sew so I had to jump in feet first. I walked into my local Joann's very blue, not knowing anything. I purchased this pattern for full price, this very nice Ponte material, full price, thread and elastic. I did not know how to really read the pattern envelope, but I looked at the pictured...I was like mmm, I must need elastic. I can laugh now but at the time it was scary.

This was my very first make. Ever. I can remember trying to figure out the gathers - lawd, I must have sewn the top a million times before I went to YouTube and looked up "how to sew gathers." But I loved it. I was proud and it fit...like a glove I might add.

"The Dets"

I cut a large for the top portion of the dress and an XL for the bottom. Now I could have and probably should have graded the hip area, but you have to remember at this time I did not know anything about that at the time. I would definitely make this again and now that I know that I know that I know. I would sprinkle a little more "Nikki" on it!
